Portfolio Just About Done

I have been working on my portfolio for the last couple of months and it just about finished. This first version will be a flash only site but I have plans to incorporate a script that will detect weather or not the viewer has flash and if not will revert to a CSS/JavaScript. If They do not have JavaScript allowed it will be able to display without it. The script will be able to detect right down to a to a portable device with no flash or CSS and still be able to display text only.

This is a sample of my 3d work that I am producing for my course in MultiMedia at Randwick Tafe Sydney. The program used was lightwave.

I enjoy very much playing around in the 3d world and I am looking forward to completing my final assessment task for the year.

The “Starting School” project is going well, I found, what I think an appropriate song to compliment the slide show – a bit of humour.

Have just started the next phase in our instructional design journey this time our class project is to make a new E-videobook based on “Child Care” and using Gagne’s Nine Events of Instruction.

We will again will be using slides incorporating an appropriate design with the use of audio and for this one I intend to use images to try and grab the viewers attention.

All Things Flash

As promised this blog is to be all things multimedia and one of my favorite corners of the multimedia planet is Flash.

For this first entry and to get the ball rolling, I have come across two open-source “little rippers” to add to your flash bag of tricks.

1 – A new engine which expands on the Zigo tweening class to include tweening filters. It’s name is Fuse. A great animation tool to get that fancy flash up and running. Lee Brimelow has a couple of very good tutorials on how to install use this tool.

2 – IFBIN. This is a small application you keep on your desktop, which when launched opens a browser window to a library of flash files created by some of the best flash coders out
there. The code is checked and verified and the application will download the fla and swf to your hard drive. Very cool. (link the image below to check it out)

Follow up to Wiki E-Book

In an earlier post I was referring to an on-line E-BOOK at my classes wiki, which touched on the subject of Instructional design.

Well I have been most fortunate to track down Svetlana who is one of the co-authors of the book and interview her for my podcast site. This interview took place at the Sydney Opera House during a recent performance of the Russian Ballet.

Svetlana, who is a ballet enthusiast does not grant many interviews so please link on her image above and listen to her views on Instructional Design.

This project is also an ongoing look into the world of podcasting, RSS and blogging as mentioned in earlier posts. Part of the tasks we have to complete also include managing and documenting the workflow to complete these tasks. In my post dated september 4th I mentioned a usefull tool for keeping track and managing your projects workflow Voo2do

Information V’s Instruction

If you ever have to produce an instructional package for a client or your company the question is going to arise are they going to learn anything from it. If you give them just sraight information probably not, but if you design your instructional package with the use of a few basic principals, you will be on a winner.

You can link from the above image to my latest podcasts where I look into the differences of instruction and information and give a short example of a podcast designed to teach you about the three principals of learning by David Merrill.

David Merrill is the professor of instructional technology at Utah State University and has a very interesting (and short) article on information v instruction. You can link to this article HERE

A Group Project – Video Book

I have just completed a group project to produce an E-Video Book. The book is covering the subject of instructional design. Each member was given a chapter to complete, they were then embeded into our wiki through the use of UTube.

You can go and check it out by linking on the image below, and while you are there why not have a browse through our wiki there is a lot of interesting stuff there.

The format I chosen for this is in the form of a chat show. It does not go into fine detail, but is more an overview of how the system works.

A Useful Tool

One of the main tasks for Instructional Design is managing and organizing the task on hand.

There are many useful tools available on the web and one of them that we in our course are using is Voo2do. (Where do they come up with the names for these things).

It aids in setting out the workflow and the time estimated to complete tasks against the time that the task actually took.
